We need to create jobs by attracting new industries to local cities. This requires active support from local governments or governments.

지방도시의 인구소멸문제는 날이 갈수록 빨라지고 있다. 인구가  3000여명이 채 안되는 구미시 장천면은 지난해 출생아가 1명이었다고 한다.

같은 지방도시라 할지라도 지역별로 인구소멸은 심각하다.

구미는 젊은 도시로서 좋은 학군과 병원 등을 다 갖추고 있어 청년들이 귀농하기에 선호하는 지역으로 매년 70여명이 귀농하고 있다.

인구소멸은 지방 도시에서 인구가 줄어들어 경제, 사회, 문화적 문제가 발생하는 현상이므로 이를 막기 위해서는 다각도의 노력이 필요하다.

지방 도시에 새로운 산업을 유치하여 일자리를 만들어야 한다. 이를 위해서는 지방 자치 단체나 정부의 적극적인 지원이 필요하다.

지방 도시에서 교육과 문화 산업을 발전시키면 청년들이 지방에 머무르고 일할 의사를 가질 가능성이 높아진다.

주거환경을 개선하고 주거비용을 낮추는 정책을 시행함으로써 지방 도시에서 청년들이 살기 좋은 도시로 바뀔 수 있다.

혁신적인 지역 기업을 육성함으로써 경제 성장과 일자리 창출을 동시에 이루어 지역 인구 감소 문제를 해결할 수 있다.

대도시와의 연결성을 높여 지방과 대도시간의 경제적 상생을 도모함으로써 지방 도시의 인구 감소 문제를 해결할 수 있다. 이를 위해서는 지방 도시와 대도시를 잇는 교통망의 개선이 필요하다.

무엇보다도 지방도시의 사람들은 인구소멸에 대한 심각성을 인식해야만 한다.
