At the meeting, participating countries agreed that as recent fraudulent crimes can be used online to target global citizens across borders, a joint statement of "no longer tolerating fraudulent crimes" is needed.

International cooperation is more important in the arrest and response of cross-border fraudsters with more sophisticated methods by exploiting the development of financial and communication technologies.

The meeting is expected to gain momentum in the future in the arrest of trans-border fraudulent criminals and the recovery of fraudulent criminal proceeds between countries.

3월 11일 우리나라를 포함한 미국, 영국, 캐나다, 프랑스, 독일 ,일본 등 주요 11개국이 국경을 초월한 사기범죄 근절에 협력하기로 뜻을 모았다.

 영국 런던에서 열린 '글로벌 사기범죄방지 정상회의'에서 '초국경 사기범죄 근절'을 위해 '글로벌 사기범죄방지 정상회의 성명서'를 채택하고 대응책 이행을 약속했다.

글로벌 사기범죄방지 정상회의에서 한국, 미국, 영국, 호주, 캐나다, 프랑스, 독일, 이탈리아, 일본, 뉴질랜드, 싱가포르 등 11개국이 참가했다.

특히 주최국인 영국이 한국과 싱가포르를 특별 초청한 이유는 우리 정부의 사기범죄 방지 역량과 사기범죄 수사 활동 등을 높이 평가했기 때문이라는 해석이 있다.

이날 회의에서 참가국들은 최근 사기범죄가 온라인 등을 이용해 국경을 초월해 세계시민을 범죄의 표적으로 삼을 수 있게 됨에 따라, '더 이상 사기범죄를 용납하지 않겠다'는 공동의 입장표명이 필요하다는 데 의견을 일치했다.

금융･통신기술 발전을 악용해 더욱 정교한 수법으로 국경을 넘나드는 사기범들의 검거 및 대응에 국제협력이 더욱 중요하다.

이번 회의를 통해 앞으로 초국경 사기범죄자 검거와 국가 간 사기범죄수익 환수 등에 탄력을 받을 것으로 전망되고 있다.
