According to data from the National Statistical Office, math ranked first in the monthly average spending on private education per high school student.

Why is math considered important in high school, university, and society or business and requires learners to invest a lot of time?

The biggest reason is that our society is a competitive society, and the best subject to extract this competition from objective data is mathematics.

Mathematics is not easy for anyone to study and has a high correlation with intelligence.

In addition, it is difficult to have good math skills, but I think I have some patience to overcome it patiently.

The reason why mathematics' position in today's infinite competitive society has increased is that mathematics has the highest value as a selection tool among various subjects.

사진 설명: 조선시대 개화기 말 서당 학습 풍경,  조선시대에는 수학을 산학이라고 불렀으며, 조선시대 대표적인 수학자 박율이 쓴 산한원본(算學原本)이라는 수학책으로 공부를 하였다.

수포자라는 말이 있다. 오늘날 입시학원계에서는 수학 포기는 대학 포기와 같다는 말을 하기도 한다. 물론 수학 포기를 했다고 해서 대학을 못가는 것은 아니다.

수학을 공부하는 이유는 논리적 사고력을 키울 수 있고, 구조를 보는 시야를 기를 수 있고 창의력을 신장시킬 수 있기 때문이다.

수학은 사회 여러 분야에 구조적으로 적용되며 심미적 시야를 길러 주어 우리의 삶을 풍요롭게 만들어 준다.

고등학교 과목에서 어떤 과목이 제일 중요하냐는 질문을 중고등학생과 학부모들에게 질문을 하면 대다수가 국어, 영어, 수학 중 한 과목을 선택한다.

통계청 자료에 따르면 고등학생 1인당 월평균 사교육비 지출 순위가 수학이 1위로 발표된 사실이 있다. 

수학을 고등학교, 대학교 그리고 사회나 기업에서 중요하게 여기고 학습자에게 많은 시간을 투자하게끔 요구하는 이유는 무엇일까?

가장 큰 이유는 우리 사회가 경쟁사회이며 이 경쟁을 객관적 데이터로 뽑아낼 수 있는 가장 좋은 과목이 수학이기 때문이다.

수학은 누구나 쉽게 공부할 수 없으며 지능과의 상관관계도 높다.

더불어 수학 실력이 좋다는 것은 어렵지만 끈기있게 이겨낸 인내심까지 어느정도 갖추었다고 생각되기 때문이다.

띠라서 오늘날과 같은 무한 경쟁사회에서 수학의 입지가 더욱 높아진 이유는 선발도구로서의 가치가 여러 과목 중 수학이 가장 높기 때문이다.

수학에는 왕도가 없다. 인내심을 가지고 끈기있게 수학의 논리적인 계단을 한계단 두계단 포기하지 않고 올라가다보면 수학의 정상에 도달할 수 있다.
