현재 한국정신문화의 도시라고 불리는 안동시는 백신산업의 중심지로서 대기업을 유치하며 바이오산업도시로 변모하고 있다.

안동시는 우리나라 옛 전통문화와 현대산업사회의 큰 변화에 물결을 융합하여 세계적인 도시로 성장해 나가고 있다.

인구소멸 위기에 처한 지방도시가 성장하기 위해서는 청년들이 매력을 느끼고 정착할 수 있는 정주여건과 문화가 필요하다.

안동시는 국제탈춤페스티벌을 운영함으로서 세계 속의 한국을 표방하며 세계인들을 불러모으고 있다. 

이처럼 안동은 허례허식에서 벗어나 실용적이고 합리적인 고장으로 변모해가고 있다. 따라서 한국사회는 다양한 도전으로 지방도시의 미래상을 보여주고 있는 안동의 저력을 배워야만 한다.

안동시와 같이 지방 도시가 성장하는 방법은 매우 다양하지만, 몇 가지 중요한 요소를 고려해야 한다.

첫째, 경제적 측면에서는 지방 도시가 새로운 산업과 기업들을 유치할 수 있도록 투자 인프라 구축이 필요하다. 이를 위해서는 고속도로나 철도 등의 교통망과 함께 적극적인 지원 정책을 시행해야 한다. 또한, 산업단지나 기업지원센터 등의 시설을 건설하여 기업들이 쉽게 진출할 수 있도록 지원해야 한다.

넷째, 주민 삶의 질 측면에서는 체육시설, 문화시설, 의료시설 등을 충분히 제공해야 한다. 또한, 깨끗하고 안전한 환경을 제공하는 것도 중요하다. 지방 도시가 안전하고 살기 좋은 곳이라면, 이를 들어 유입되는 인구와 기업들이 늘어날 것이다.

이러한 요소들을 종합적으로 고려하여 적극적으로 정책을 추진하고 실행하는 것이 중요하다. 이를 위해 지방 정부와 지방 주민들이 긴 시간동안 지속적인 노력과 투자를 해야 하며, 이러한 노력이 지속되면서 더욱 발전된 지방 도시가 될 수 있다.
