Geumosan Provincial Park, designated as Korea's first provincial park on June 1, 1970, has excellent tourism in the mountain itself with strange rocks and beautiful trees.

In particular, it is fascinated by the vastness of the Gaeryeong Plain that runs along Gamcheon Stream in the direction of Gimcheon, including the wide plain next to the Nakdonggang River that can be seen from near the summit.

Geumosanseong Fortress, which was built on Geumosan Mountain, which had an excellent function as a natural fortress, was a strategic point in the Yeongnam region along the Nakdonggang River, such as Cheonsangseong Fortress in Indong in the early Joseon Dynasty, and was in charge of four counties: Seonsan, Gaeryeong, Gimcheon, and Jirye.

The function of the strategic point continues even in modern times, and the U.S. military communication base is established at the top of Geumosan Mountain.

Times have changed a lot and U.S. military communication bases can be replaced by artificial communication satellites. How long will our land be used as a U.S. military communication base?

It was designated as an access control area when the U.S. military communication base was built at the top of Geumosan Mountain in 1953, but after persistent negotiations in Gumi City, 5,666㎡ of land, including the top, was returned in September 2014.

In the future, the entire site of the U.S. military communication base should be returned so that architectural structures such as the Geumosan Tower, which is suitable for the majesty of Geumosan Mountain, will be built instead of steel towers. If you see the best scenery in Yeongnam area from the highest height and stay there, it will be reborn as a world-class attraction.

In addition, it is necessary to introduce an air transportation system as a means of mountain transportation so that anyone of all ages, including the elderly and the disabled, can enjoy the superb view of Geumosan Mountain by using a heliport installed at the top of Geumosan Mountain.

On June 4, 2020, the government announced the launch of commercial services for Urban Air Mobility (UAM), an eco-friendly and quiet three-dimensional transportation.

Urban air transportation, which is scheduled to introduce a personal flight vehicle capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), is an innovative transportation service aimed at flying a distance of 30 to 50 kilometers in the urban area.

1970년 6월 1일에 우리나라 최초의 도립공원으로 지정된 금오산도립공원은 기암괴석과 수려한 수목들로 산 자체의 관광성이 매우 뛰어나다.

특히 정상부근에서 바라다보이는 낙동강 옆 넓은 평야를 비롯하여 김천 방면 감천을 따라 이어지는 개령 평야의 광활함에 매료된다.

천연요새로서 기능이 뛰어났던 금오산에 조성된 금오산성은 조선조 초에 인동의 천생산성과 같이 낙동강을 낀 영남지방의 전략 요충지로서 3,500여명의 군병으로 선산, 개령, 김천 , 지례 등 4군을 관할하였다.

전략적 요충지의 기능은 현대에 와서도 이어져 금오산 정상부에 미군통신기지가 조성되어있다.

시대가 많이 변했고 미군통신기지는 인공통신위성으로 대체할 수 있다. 언제까지 우리의 땅을 미군통신기지로 쓰게 할 것인가. 

1953년 금오산 정상부지에 미군 통신기지가 들어서면서 출입통제 구역으로 지정되었으나 구미시의 끈질긴 협상끝에 지난 2014년 9월에 정상을 포함한 5,666㎡의 부지를 돌려받았다.

앞으로 미군통신기지 부지 전부를 돌려받아 철탑 대신 금오산의 위용에 걸맞는 금오산 타워 같은 건축구조물이 들어서게 해야한다. 영남 일대 최고의 절경을 최고 높이에서 관람하고 체류하게 되면 세계적인 명소로 거듭날 것이다. 

또한 금오산 정상부에 설치된 헬기장을 활용하여 노약자와 장애인들을 비롯하여 남녀노소 누구라도 금오산의 절경을 감상할 수 있도록 산악이동수단으로서의 항공 운송체계를 도입해야 할 필요성이 있다.

정부는 지난 2020년 6월 4일 친환경·저소음 3차원 교통수단인 도심항공교통(UAM·Urban Air Mobility)의 2025년 상용 서비스 개시를 목표로 발표한 바 있다.

수직이착륙(VTOL)이 가능한 개인용 비행체가 도입될 예정인 도심항공교통은 도시 권역 30~50km의 이동거리를 비행 목표로 하고 있는 혁신적인 교통서비스다.
