국제적 협력과 정책 변화도 임업의 미래에 중요한 역할을 한다. 

국제적인 산림 보호 협정과 UN의 지속 가능한 개발 목표(SDGs)는 전 세계적으로 지속 가능한 임업을 촉진하는 데 중요한 지침이 되고 있다.
