황제펭권은 남극의 영하 50도 추위를 견뎌낼 수 있는 유일한 동물이다.

키 130센티미터에 40킬로그램의 황제펭귄은 매서운 추위로부터 새끼를 보호하기 위해 집단으로 무리지어 움직이는 허들링을 한다.

김진만 PD는 극한의 상황에서도 생존을 위해 부성애를 발휘하는 황제펭귄의 모습에 매료되어 가슴 설레이는 마음으로 남극의 눈물을 촬영했다고 한다.

새끼를 사랑하고 보살피는 본능은 숭고하다. 하지만 황제펭귄조차도 다른 새끼의 안위는 신경쓰지 않는다.

만물의 영장이라고 불리는 인간 역시 황제펭귄과 같은 자식 사랑은 마찬가지이나, 부모 잃은 타인의 자식도 돌볼 줄 안다.

인간은 휴머니즘이 있기에 동물과는 다른 존재이다.

김진만 PD는 황제펭귄의 존재는 기후변화에 따른 남극의 변화상을 반영하고, 만약 인간이 존재하지 않는다면 지구 생태계는 원상태를 회복할 것이라고 말한다.

산업혁명 이후 인간이 무지하여 자연에 해를 끼친 행위를 반성하고 다시 원상태로 회복시키기 위한 전세계적인 노력이 진행되고 있다.

탄소배출을 최소화 시키는 자가 미래의 부를 거머쥔다.
