신영주번개시장.종합시장은 2016년 7월 신영주번개시장과 인접해 있던 영주종합시장을 통합한 시장으로, 영주시 휴천2동, 영주역 인근에 있다. 

영주역 인근에 있는 신영주 번개시장의 경우 과거 비둘기호가 운행될 당시 많은 인파들이 생겼고 장이 형성되어 자연스럽게 형성된 것이 지금의 시장이다.

비둘기호가 영업 중단을 하면서 영주역 이용객이 줄어들었고, 자연스럽게 옛날만큼의 사람들의 북적임은 볼 수 없다.

번개시장 이름의 유래는 아침에 반짝 번개같이 열렸다 파장하여 이름이 붙었다. 작은 규모로 정겨운 분위기의 시장은 각종 건어물이나 인근 산지에서 직접 재배한 농산물들을 판다. 또한 여느시장이나 다름없이 사람들이 즐겨입는 의류나 신발 등 잡화까지 다양하게 취급하고 있다.

신영주 번개시장 바로 위의 영주종합시장은 형성 초기부터 천정을 만들어 비가림막이 있어 많은 사람들이 드나들 수 있는 넓은 공간에 파전과 막걸리 등을 판매하는 먹거리 시장이 형성되어 허기진 배를 채워줄 수 있는 서민음식의 대표적인  곳으로 자리매김했다. 또한 옛적에는 백수청년들이 옹기종기 모여앉아 막걸리를 건네며 소소한 이야기를 나눌 수 있는 만남의 장이기도 했다.
