Monk Jin-oh, the representative of the people who fulfill their dreams, has been promoting the foreign workers' cultural festival successfully for 18 years.

Monk Jinoh has been operating counseling centers and emergency protection shelters in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, actively responding to the promotion of human rights and discrimination of foreign workers over the past 20 years.

Monk Jin-oh received a commendation from the President on May 20, 2022, for his contribution to the development of the country and society by working to protect the rights and interests of foreigners in Korea and to integrate society.

However, Monk Jin-oh expressed regret that our society still tends to treat people from poor and difficult countries or people with different skin colors, unlike English-speaking people, while according to statistics from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security as of 2022, foreign residents are valuable neighbors and should be treated as partners because 2.15 million foreigners live in Korea and their labor and social contributions are higher.

Monk Jin-oh emphasizes that Asian countries, in particular, experienced colonial rule, independence, and democratization around the same time as the Republic of Korea, or that Korea is becoming a political and economic model, so foreign residents play a role as private diplomats.

Foreign-centered festivals that introduce their country's traditional culture, sing loudly, and dance and mingle are public activities that recognize the diversity of our society. The organization that has been communicating with them has kept it with passion.

Monk Jin-oh expressed his gratitude to those who cooperated with the foreign workers' cultural festival, hoping to respect the efforts of the institution that knows the level well.

The achievements of the past 20 years have been achieved step by step as "dreamers" dreamt of. It is expected to grow further in the future as the center of coexistence between Koreans and foreigners.

With the development of SNS and new media technologies, racial prejudice and language barriers are being eliminated, and as Monk Jin-oh said, an era has arrived where we can live together in a beautiful world.

사단법인 꿈을 이루는사람들 대표인 진오스님은 18년째 외국인근로자 문화축제를 성황리에 추진해오고 있다.

진오스님은 지난 20년간 경상북도 구미지역을 중심으로 외국인노동자의 인권증진과 차별대우에 적극 대응하며 상담센터와 긴급보호 쉼터를 운영해 왔다.

진오스님은 2022년 5월 20일 대통령으로부터 재한 외국인의 권익 보호와 사회통합에 힘써 국가와 사회의 발전에 이바지한 공로로 표창을 받았다.

하지만 진오스님은 아직도 우리 사회는 가난하고 어려운 나라에서 온 사람 혹은 피부색이 다른 사람에게 대해 영어권 출신 사람과 달리 낮춰 대하는 경향이 있다고 아쉬움을 토로하는 한편, 2022년 기준 행정안전부 통계에 따르면 대한민국에는 215만명의 외국인이 살고 있으며, 그들의 노동력과 사회 기여도는 더 높아지기 때문에 외국인주민은 소중한 우리의 이웃이며, 동반자로서 대우받아야 한다고 말했다.

진오스님은 특히 아시아 국가는 대한민국과 비슷한 시기에 식민지배와 독립과 민주화를 겪었거나 진행형이기에 우리나라는 정치, 경제의 모델이 되고 있어 외국인주민은 민간외교관으로서 역할을 하고 있다고 강조한다.

자기 나라의 전통문화를 소개하고, 마음꺽 소리 높여 노래하며, 춤추고 어울리는 외국인 중심의 축제는 우리 사회의 다양성을 인정하는 공적활동이다. 그들과 소통하며 지내 온 단체가 열정으로 지켜왔다.

진오스님은 눈높이를 잘 아는 기관의 노력을 존중해 주길 바라며, 외국인 근로자 문화축제에 협력해 준 분들에게 감사의 마음을 전했다.

지난 20년 세월의 성과는 '꿈을이루는사람들'이 꿈꾸며 그리던 소망대로 차근차근 이뤄진 결과물이다. 앞으로도 한국인과 외국인간의 공존의 중심으로 더욱 큰 성장을 할 것으로 기대된다.

SNS와 뉴미디어 기술 발달로 인종 편견과 언어의 장벽이 없어지고 있고, 진오스님의 말처럼  아름 다운 세상 같이 살 수 있는 시대가 도래했다.
