박정희 대통령에 대한 평가는 역사학자와 정치학자를 비롯해 시민들 그리고 정치적 견해에 따라 다양하다. 그의 18년 동안의 통치 기간 동안 한국은 경제적으로 큰 성과를 이루었다. 하지만 박정희 대통령의 독재적인 통치 방식과 인권 침해로 인해 논란은 여전하나, 박정희 대통령 생가는 나라가 혼란스러울때 마다 강력한 카리스마의 지도자를 갈망하는 보수결집의 심장이 되고 있다.

박정희 대통령에 대한 긍정적인 평가로는 단연코 경제 성과이다. 박정희 대통령 시기에는 한국이 급속한 경제 성장을 이루었다. 수출 중심의 산업화 정책과 함께, 대외 무역이 증가하고 국내 소득 수준이 상승했다.

더불어 국방력 강화도 빼놓을 수 없다. 베트남 전쟁과 같은 국제 정세에서 한국의 안보를 강화하는 데 일조했다. 한국 군대는 그 당시 동아시아에서 강력한 군사력 중 하나로 인정받았기 때문이다.

국가 건설을 주도적으로 시행한 박정희 정부는 한국의 인프라를 현대화하고, 국가 건설을 촉진하는 등의 사회 변모를 이끌었다.

독재와 인권 침해는 언제나 박정희 대통령의 부정적인 평가의 화두가 되고 있다. 

박정희 대통령은 1961년 군사 쿠데타로 대통령이 되었다. 그 이후로 계속된 독재적인 통치로 인해 시민의 인권이 침해되었다는 비판이 있다. 

충분한 정치적 자유가 보장되지 않았고, 불편한 정치적 의견은 억압되었다.

1979년 10월 26일, 박정희 대통령은 자신이 아끼던 고향 후배인 김재규에 의해 암살됐다. 이 사건은 당시 정부의 불안정성과 민주주의 부재를 강조하는 계기가 됐다.

이러한 평가들은 역사적인 맥락과 시대적 상황을 감안하여 이뤄져야 한다. 

박정희 대통령의 행적은 여전히 논란이 많은 주제 중 하나이며, 한국 사회에서 여전히 논의되고 있는 진행형이다.

그러나 박정희 대통령의 고향에서 만큼은 해가 갈수록 유신시절의 향수를 기억하는 이들에게 더욱 숭모의 대상이 되고 있다.
