According to the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Dictionary, Park Rok-ju is a famous pansori female singer who was born in Goa-myeon, Seonsan-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do and was active in the 20th century.

Park Rok-ju recorded the album for the first time at the age of 22, and with this opportunity, he recorded it in Columbia Records, Big Tare Records, Oke Records, and Pacific Records.

At this time, he also appeared in the test broadcast of Gyeongseong Broadcasting Station JODK, and from then on, he participated in the broadcast about 100 times until March 1945.

Park Rok-ju, who gradually became widely known as a master singer, gained such fame that his name was mentioned in Jeong No-sik's "Chosun Changgeuk History."

Recently, the webtoon "Oh! Rokju" based on Park Rok-ju recorded 840,000 subscriptions within a week of the series of Kakao Page.

"Oh! Rokju" is the first local promotional webtoon produced by Gumi City, and it is the story of Park Rok-ju, a real person from Gumi, and Hae-won, who time-slip to Gumi 100 years ago.

It promotes Dongpyeonje with Park Rok-ju and contains instructive content that gives hope and courage to the younger generation who are unable to find their way.

It is of great significance in that it served as a bridge between the past and the present culture by drawing the biography of Dongpyeonje Myeongchang well with webtoons, a modern trend.

Park Rok-ju's achievements during his lifetime have become a great legacy that increases the added value of the region today.

As Baekbeom Kim Gu said about culture, "What you only want to have is the power of a high culture."

한국전통연희사전에 따르면 박록주 선생은 경북 선산군 고아면에서 태어나 20세기에 활동한 판소리 여성 명창이다.

박록주 선생은 22세에 처음으로 음반을 취입했으며, 이를 계기로 콜럼비아레코드, 빅타레코드, 오케레코드, 태평양레코드 등에서 연달아 녹음했다. 

이 무렵, 경성방송국JODK의 시험방송에도 출연했는데 그로부터 1945년 3월까지 약 100여 차례나 방송에 참여했다. 

점차 명창으로 널리 알려지게 된 박록주 선생은 정노식 선생의  '조선창극사'에 이름이 거론될 정도로 명성을 얻었다.

최근 박록주 선생을 소재로 한 웹툰 '오! 록주'가 카오페이지 연재 일주일 만에 구독 횟수 84만 뷰 기록했다고 한다.

'오! 록주'는 구미시에서 처음으로 제작한 지역 홍보 웹툰으로, 실존 인물인 구미 출신 명창 박록주 선생과 100년 전 구미로 타임슬립한 해원의 이야기이다.

박록주 선생과 동편제를 홍보하며 자신의 길을 찾지 못하고 있는 젊은 세대에 희망과 용기를 주는 교훈적인 내용을 담고 있다.

출중했던 동편제 명창의 일대기를 현대의 트렌드인 웹툰으로 잘 그려내어, 과거와 현재의 문화를 융합시키는 가교역할을 했다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다.

박록주 선생이 생전에 남긴 업적들이 오늘날 지역의 부가가치를 높이는 위대한 유산으로 자리잡았다.

백범 김구는 문화에 대해  “오직 한없이 가지고 싶은 것은 높은 문화의 힘이다.”라고 했듯이,

오늘날 한국이 세계적으로 발돋움할 수 있었던 것은 경제력 이전에 오랫동안 축적된 문화의 힘이 있었기에 가능했다.
